The 5 "good to know" things to know about studying in Spain after a PACES

FEEDUC

After your baccalaureate you have chosen to start your studies in the health field in France.
You are wondering how to study in Spain after a PACES?

The PACES results have been published since mid-June and have been coming in for several weeks now, region after region.

  • Some students had booked a place in a university in Spain "in case" their result was not up to their work and hopes and were admitted in PACES. We are very happy for them and we wish them good studies: Spain will always welcome them with open arms during ERASMUS exchanges or...during the vacations.
  • Other students had booked a place in a university in Spain "in case" their results were not up to their work and hopes and were not admitted to the PACES. They just have to continue their administrative procedures in Spain and are sure to continue in the program of their choice at the beginning of the new school year. We wish them good studies and a pleasant life in Spain!
  • Other students have bet everything on the PACES, without anticipating the admission process in Spain and have not been admitted. For medical and dental studies, it is too late to enter a university in Spain for the new school year, and for physical therapy studies, the choice is very limited and the time to prepare for the new school year is becoming more and more insufficient.

In order to prevent future students from finding themselves in the latter case, this week we offer you the 5 "GOOD TO KNOW" for studying in Spain after a PACES.

5 "GOOD TO KNOW" for studying in Spain after a PACES

  • It is possible to enter a university in Spain after a PACES or after two years of PACES.
  • For students authorized to triple their PACES, it is also possible to continue their studies in Spain.
  • It is also possible for students to switch to a new career or study program. Some universities are more interested in the motivation and Spanish level of their future students than in their academic background.

No, this is not possible.
The study plans in PACES never correspond perfectly between a year of PACES in France and a year of study in the health field in Spain.

  • The Spanish regional authorities set the maximum number of places available per ECTS validation for each university.
  • A minimum of 30 ECTS in perfect correspondence between the two study plans is required for the file to be eligible.
  • You cannot know before the official answer if your file is eligible. There are very few places of this order offered (between 0 in medicine and 3 in dentistry or physiotherapy) by each university. The university admits the best application(s).

ATTENTION : applying for admission to a university by validation of ECTS implies renouncing the application process in Post-Bac and therefore renouncing to study in the university in case of non-selection of your file by the university.
The answers to the application for admission by ECTS validation are given between the beginning and the middle of July.

Some universities allow these validations and others do not offer this possibility.
For the universities that do allow it, it is not automatic: an in-depth study of the courses received in PACES will be compared to the study plan of the Spanish university concerned and only the subjects validated in PACES and whose content corresponds can be "pre-validated" by the university.

  • Advantage n°1 : The subjects already validated will not have to be paid in private universities. However, the requested documents must be translated into Spanish by a sworn translator. The difference in the overall investment may not be as great as you might have imagined at first.
  • Advantage n°2: It allows to lighten the 1st year which can be a point which facilitates the year of integration.
  • Disadvantage n°1: The answer to an application for admission by validation of ECTS is known only in July, it is no longer possible for students who have not been selected to find a place elsewhere.
  • Disadvantage n°2 : The validation of ECTS never corresponds to subjects of the same year of study. The university will therefore put together an individual study plan for the student concerned, combining subjects from several years. In order for the student to be able to follow all the courses, he/she will be integrated into morning groups in one year and afternoon courses in the other year: this makes the timetable complicated with hours without classes scattered throughout the day and a very wide range of hours.
  • Disadvantage n°3 : A maximum time saving of 1/2 year is generally noted, but this does not reduce the duration of the studies which always end in June of an academic year.
