EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT UNIVERSITY

Recognized diplomas thanks to the Bologna Process

Spain, like France, is part of the Bologna process.

University courses at Spanish universities comply with European agreements, guaranteeing recognition of Spanish degrees in other European Union countries that have also signed the Bologna agreements.

THE TWO UNIVERSITY SYSTEMS IN SPAIN

  1. The public system
    • Difficult access for foreign post-baccalaureate students due to selection via EvAU, a specific exam taken by Spanish high school students.
    • Selective courses, particularly in the health sector (medicine, veterinary medicine, etc.), are particularly competitive.
    • If you want to secure a place in your field of study, the private system may be a better option.

  1. The private system
    • Much more developed than in France, with an approach similar to that of the Anglo-Saxon or American education systems.
    • Some Spanish families save from the moment their children are born to finance their studies at these institutions.

CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY

  1. Verify official accreditation:
    • Make sure the university is authorized by the Spanish government to issue diplomas that comply with ECTS credits.
    • Look for the words " Ley Orgánica de Universidades " on their documents and check this information on the Spanish Ministry of Education website.
  2. Teaching quality :
    • Private universities often offer modern facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and university clinics for health and technical training.
    • Hands-on training and interaction with professionals are major assets.
  3. Aligning with your values :
    • Some private universities in Spain offer religious courses of varying degrees of proselytizing. Check that their approach is in line with your convictions before committing yourself.
  4. Languages :
    • Classes are held mainly in Spanish, sometimes in English. A minimum level in both languages is essential for success.

TIPS FOR PREPARING YOUR STUDY PROJECT IN SPAIN

  • Take a language course before you leave.
    • These options are often less expensive than the Spanish courses offered by universities, and allow you to arrive better prepared.
  • Weigh up the costs before you commit.
    • Annual fees range from €8,000 to over €20,000, depending on the course.
