The health situation in Spain

Many of you will start studying in Spain from September 2020 and you are probably wondering about the sanitary measures taken by the universities in Spain due to the global pandemic of COVID-19. There is no need to worry. We explain how the start of the 2020 academic year will be in Spanish universities.

Despite the state of emergency announced in Spain from March 14 to June 21, 2020, the health situation is now under control.

Travelers from within the European area (European Union Member States, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, Vatican City) will not be subject to any sanitary measures upon entry into Spanish territory if they do not show symptoms of COVID-19.

Only if you are traveling by plane from any airport outside of Spain, you will be asked to fill out a public health form, which will allow an evaluation of the passengers in relation to COVID-19 and will facilitate the location of possible contacts at risk during your flight in Spain.

The public health form must be filled out before arriving in Spain electronically via the web address: www.spth.gob.es or via the free SPAIN TRAVEL HEALTH-SPTH app (available on Android and IOS).

Once the form is filled in, you will receive a QR code that must be presented at the health controls upon arrival in Spain.

Restrictions in Spain

Since the end of the state of alert, the entire Spanish territory has been subject to the rules of the "new normal", which includes:

  • the wearing of a mask is compulsory for all persons over 6 years of age, in public transport, as well as in public spaces or in places open to the public, including hotels and shops, when a distance of one and a half metres cannot be maintained between two people
  • mandatory wearing of masks in vehicles, if passengers do not live in the same household;

There is no quarantine to respect for the moment but you will have to respect the standards at the time of your arrival and according to the evolutions.

It is possible that, depending on the evolution of the pandemic, the different autonomous communities will indicate additional restrictions in their territory, such as

  • Prohibition of limited grouping of persons
  • Smoking is prohibited indoors AND outdoors if the distance of 1m50 is not respected
  • Limited opening hours for nightclubs and bars

The government has also set up an application that you can download to your phone to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

This application, COVID Radar, will anonymously notify you of any contact you have had in the past 14 days with an infected person using Bluetooth technology.

The COVID radar also allows you to anonymously communicate your positive diagnosis and to always anonymously report the exposure with the virus of the people with whom you have been in contact

This application is not yet fully available throughout Spain. If you are interested, here is the download link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=es.gob.radarcovid&hl=es.

What will my first day in Spain be like?

For allfirst year students, our recommendation, despite the current situation, is to be in Spain every year from the beginning of September so that you can start acclimatizing to your new life as a student in Spain.

The dates of the beginning of the school year are already published on our website, in our calendar , but your university will inform you of the details of the beginning of the school year during the month of September.

In addition, most universities will hold training days to explain the different protocols and health rules to adopt once on campus. These training sessions can be held online or in person.

The university will notify you in a timely manner about these events. Be sure to check your email regularly as well as your spam.

How will the courses in Spain work?

Faced with the pandemic, most universities had to adapt quickly and implement, as soon as the state of alarm was announced in Spain, a system of online courses and evaluation to complete the 2019-2020 curriculum.

For the start of the 2020 - 2021 academic year, universities remain cautious and propose new measures that guarantee students the ability to attend classes safely and above all without losing the quality of their education.

Most universities are integrating a new academic model that combines face-to-face teaching with distance learning. And this, as long as the Spanish health authorities advise it.

We will detail below the measures implemented by some universities in Spain.

Start date: September 14, 2020 - 10am

Pre-School Event: Week of September 7 online only. (Connection links: https: //fusp-ceu.zoom.us/j/96654945824 and password: 080397)

Here are the steps taken at CEU San Pablo:

  • Combines face-to-face and online theory courses thanks to the installation in all classrooms of 360º cameras (latest technology) to follow the courses in streaming.
  • Theoretical and practical face-to-face courses except in justified personal circumstances (in which case the student can follow the courses at a distance).
  • Masks must be worn on campus.
  • Accredited security in CEU areas.

You will find all the updated information on our website.

The new teaching model proposed by the Universidad Europea is called " Hyflex ": the teaching is both flexible and customizable. It allows alternating classroom and distance learning courses.

This model has been designed and prepared to adapt to all the situations that could arise from the health situation caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and is organized in 3 parts:

  • 20% of practical face-to-face activities: basic experiments in laboratories and professional practices that will be done face-to-face while respecting barriers. The organization of the spaces will ensure the necessary social distancing.
  • 60% "extended" class (face-to-face and online): also called "open class", it allows flexibility between physical presence in the classroom or virtual presence from a computer. These are real courses that students attend from the classroom or from their computer. This part can go from 60% of study time in the classroom to 60% of study time online in case of strict confinement.
  • 20% digital support: Students have exclusive access to written and recorded virtual content to complement the courses themselves.
  • Masks must be worn on campus.
  • Accredited security in the EU areas (taking temperatures at the entrance, cleaning of the facilities after each use, reservation of areas, etc.)

In addition, the university suggests that if you are a student and before coming to campus for the first time, you take a COVID19 safety and prevention course, and answer the questionnaire that has been prepared by the university medical service that you can find on this link.

You will find all the updated information on our website.

UCJC is looking at different options depending on the evolution of the pandemic. Their priority is that students be able to attend 100% face-to-face training as much as possible. However, everything is prepared in case this education is not recommended to ensure the safety of all their students. The campus has been prepared so that distances are respected and contact is kept to a minimum.

You will find all the updated information on our website.

If you are registered at this university and at FEEDUC, we invite you to take part in the videoconference scheduled for September 4, where we'll be detailing all the news about the start of the 2020 academic year at the UCJC.

Are there any discounts for taking distance learning courses?

The prices will not be different whether you take the courses face-to-face or virtually.

Video conferencing classes are held live and interactive with the face-to-face classroom for all students who, for health reasons, are unable to come to campus.

Especially since this is a transitional and exceptional situation, given that the students are enrolled in a training that should be 100% presential.

When the health situation permits, all students will return to campus to attend their classes as usual.
