How to get around Valencia? Here is some information about transportation in Valencia

metro valencia
  • How to get around Valencia ?

Valencia is the city of "15 minutes": according to Valencians, every important point in the city is 15 minutes away. In fact, if you ask a Valencian: "Is it far?" he or she will inevitably reply: "No, it's fifteen minutes away! If you're studying at UEV https://www.feeduc.eu/universite/universite-europea-de-valencia-uev/, do the test when you arrive to check?

The city has an excellent public transportation system, which connects all the districts and tourist areas of interest. Although the size of the city allows you to get around almost anywhere on foot or by bike, for longer distances you can take the metro, streetcar, bus or cab.

In Valencia, buses run from 4:00 am to 10:30 pm. The average waiting time is 12 minutes. At each bus stop, you will find a sign indicating the waiting time for the next buses.

The night bus service starts at 10:30 p.m. and ends at 2:00 a.m. from Monday to Friday and continues until 3:30 a.m. on weekends.

(*) the bus stop of the UEV campus is line 11 "Pla del Reial", line 70 "Vivers" and line 95 "Pla del Reial".

The metro and streetcar offer 10 lines that allow you to get to any point in the city.

Each single ticket in the metro costs 1.50 euros for one zone; 2.80 euros for two zones; 4.80 euros for three zones. The price will depend on your point of departure and your point of arrival.

You can also buy the SUMA 10 pass for 8 euros, which includes 10 trips and allows you to switch from the metro or streetcar to the bus or vice versa. All these tickets can be purchased at the metro or streetcar stations.

The metro or streetcar schedule is from 4:00 am to 11:30 pm on weekdays. On weekends, the schedule is between 5:00 and 00:30. In both cases, the frequency depends on the line, but it is about 10 minutes.

The metro stops of the VU are "Alameda" and "Facultats".

If you are one of those who prefer to pedal, you will find your paradise in Valencia. There are more than 150 kilometers of bicycle paths throughout the city. But, in addition, you can meander through the old Turia riverbed, which has been transformed into a garden and is perfectly suited for bicycles, allowing you to cross the city completely from one side to the other.

Valencia is a flat city, ideal for cycling, and motor vehicles are limited to 30 kilometers per hour. This helps a lot in terms of safety.

The city has its own bicycle rental system called Valenbisi. With more than 275 stations throughout the city, Valenbisi offers you the opportunity to get around Valencia by bicycle at a lower cost.

As in any city in the world, in Valencia you can take a cab to get to any location quickly and comfortably. Of course, this means of transportation is more expensive than taking the bus or metro, but it is also the most convenient if you need to get to more distant destinations quickly.

The price of a cab ride depends on several factors. In addition to the distance of the trip, the area in which you take the cab (urban area 1, urban area 2, interurban area ...) and the time of day you take it (at night the cost is higher).

Day rate (from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm): starting price (2,5 km included) 4,00 €, from 2,5 km each additional kilometer will have a cost of 1,08 €.

Night rate (from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am): starting price (3,5 km included) 6,00 €, from 3,5 km each additional kilometer will cost 1,18 €.

There are three different ways to get to Valencia airport from the city center. You have the cab, the bus and the metro. The cab ride from Valencia airport takes about 20 minutes and costs about 21€.

Metro service to the city of Valencia leaves the airport every 15 minutes on weekdays between 5am and 11:30pm, and every 20 minutes from around 7am on weekends and holidays. The trip should take 25 minutes to the central Xativa stop, and is accessible by taking lines 3 or 5 (green and red on the metro map) and costs €3.90.

The bus is the cheapest method, costing 1.50 € and taking about 25-30 minutes.

Valencia airport has its own bus service to the city center from 5:20 am to 10:00 pm. The frequency of the buses is approximately 22 to 26 minutes on weekdays and every 35 to 40 minutes on Saturdays. There is no bus service available on Sundays.

How to get around Madrid? Here is some information about transportation in Madrid

  • How to get around Madrid?

The city of Madrid has a modern, easy and fast public transportation network to get around the city. The capital of Spain offers an infinite number of means of transportation that connect the city's neighborhoods and allow Madrid's citizens and tourists to get around Madrid and reach all the city's destinations.

Madrid offers its inhabitants the possibility of getting around by metro, bus, streetcar, train, bicycle, scooter or cab. For those who like to walk, the center of Madrid on foot is a very pleasant option to discover the different areas of the city.

The best way to get around Madrid is by metro, which is a fast, safe and economical way of getting around Madrid.

The Madrid metro network is 300 km long and is one of the largest metro networks in Europe. There are more than 300 stations and 12 lines.

To travel by metro in Madrid, you must buy a rechargeable card "Tarjeta Multi" which costs 2.5 € and can be used by several users, in which you can recharge one-way tickets or subscriptions. This card can be purchased at vending machines in stations, tobacco shops and other authorized sales centers.

The Madrid metro has several zones (Zone A, B1, B2 and B3) so the price of the ticket can vary between 1.5 € and 2 € depending on the zone, this fare is calculated according to the number of stations traveled.

To go from the airport to the center of Madrid or the opposite way, you will have to count with an additional fee of 3 €.

In addition to one-way tickets, there are several types of passes. If you want to visit the city as a tourist, the best options are the 10-trip "Metrobus" pass or the tourist pass. There are also monthly and annual passes.

The "Metrobus", which costs 12,2 €, allows 10 trips and can be used in the metro, the streetcar "metro ligero" and the public buses of the EMT network. This pass is interesting for those who want to visit the city, not only because of its reduced price but also because a single card can be used by several people.

The tourist pass also includes zone A and allows you to travel by metro, bus or streetcar without limit. Fares vary according to the number of days: one day (8,40 €), 2 days (14,20 €), 3 days (18,40 €), 4 days (22,60 €), 5 days (26,80 €) and 7 days (35,40 €). Unlike the Métrobus, this pass is personal and can only be used by one person with the Multi card.

Subscriptions:

  • Annual and monthly are interesting options if you live in Madrid and the cost varies depending on the area and the age of the users.

  • For students under 25 years old, the monthly pass for all zones costs only 20 €, which allows young people to travel on all public transport and in all areas of Madrid.

As with the tourist pass, these passes can only be used by one person.

The metro service is open from 6am to 1:30pm Monday to Sunday. The frequency varies depending on the day and time. On weekdays, the frequency varies between 3 and 7 minutes and on weekends and holidays this frequency increases by a few minutes. For more information about the metro network in Madrid, you can click on this link.

The bus in Madrid is a very good alternative for getting around the city. There are two different bus networks: the EMT (Empresa Municipal de Transportes) network for the city of Madrid and the inter-city network for getting from Madrid to the suburbs or between suburbs. The intercity bus is often a very good option to go to different universities that are located outside of Madrid.

The EMT network has more than 180 bus routes that operate during the day and almost 30 night routes. They are very modern, comfortable buses and even have a free wifi network!

The one-way ticket to travel by bus costs 1.5 € and you can buy this ticket directly on the bus and pay it by credit card or cash, (knowing that they do not accept tickets over 5 €).

There are also several types of subscriptions. The Metrobus allows you to make 10 trips for 12.2 € and the Bus + Métro subscription allows you to make 10 trips with a change of line for each trip.

The tourist pass also allows you to travel on the city bus network.

In terms of schedules, the buses run from 6am to 11:30pm on weekdays and from 7am to 11pm on weekends, then there are the night buses, nicknamed the "búhos" (owls) that run all night.

The frequency of the city buses varies according to each line and the time of day.

To consult the routes, schedules, rates and other additional information, you can visit the official website: https: //www.emtmadrid.es

To travel from Madrid to the cities surrounding Madrid and especially to universities outside of Madrid, the best option is the intercity bus. These are green buses that connect the main bus stations in Madrid with the outlying cities in the region.

The main bus stations that connect Madrid and the universities are the Moncloa and Príncipe Pio bus stations.

The fare for a single trip varies depending on the area of Madrid and can cost between €1.5 and €5.1. You can buy the tickets directly on the bus in cash or at the ticket offices of the bus stations.

You can purchase a 10-trip pass. If you need to go to the university every day of the week, it is better to buy a monthly or annual pass.

The good news for young students under 25 is that the monthly pass for all zones costs only €20, which allows young people to travel on all public transport and in all areas of Madrid. As with the tourist pass, these passes can only be used by one person.

Here are the intercity buses that connect Madrid and our partner universities in Madrid:

ESIC: 657 from Moncloa bus station

Alfonso X El Sabio University: 627 from Moncloa bus station

Universidad Camilo José Cela: 627 from Moncloa bus station

Universidad Europea de Madrid: 618 from Principe Pio bus station

Universidad U-TAD: 625A, 625 and 622 from Moncloa bus station

Universidad Francisco de Vitoria : 659 from Moncloa bus station

Universidad CEU San Pablo: 573 from Moncloa bus station

Some universities offer private buses that connect Madrid and the university. This is a very useful and practical means of transportation because it is a direct route with no stops. The universities that offer this option are

CEU San Pablo: offers a bus from the Plaza de Castilla bus station and another from the Moncloa bus station with departures at 7:45 am and 1:35 pm. These buses are free.

For more information, you can consult this link: https: //www.uspceu.com/portals/0/docs/facultad-de-farmacia/SERVICIO_DE_TRANSPORTE_MONTEPPE.pdf

Universidad Europea de Madrid: offers a bus from Moncloa (calle Arcipreste de Hita 7) to the university's door. The trips to the university are at 7:30 and 8:30 and the returns to Madrid are at 14:45 and 18:20. The journey takes about 20 minutes. This service is not free, the monthly subscription costs 35 € but you can also buy one-way tickets on the BUS UP application. For more information, you can visit their website: https://universidadeuropea.busup.com/

Cabs in Madrid are the most convenient means of transportation and the rates are quite reasonable compared to other European cities.

To recognize them, the cars are white with a red stripe diagonally across the door. To take one, there are specific stops, you can stop them on the street or order them by phone or from the Free Now application.

In terms of rates, between 7am and 9pm, the charge is €2.50 and the price per kilometer is €1.10. At night, between 9pm and 7am and on weekends, the charge is €3.15 and the price per kilometer is €1.35.

A practical and fast alternative to the cab is the VTC. In Madrid there are three VTC companies: Uber, Cabify and Bolt. To order a VTC, you have to download the applications and order them through them.

Fares vary according to demand so sometimes the trip is cheaper if you compare the fares of the 3 applications.

With such an efficient and convenient public transportation system, getting around Madrid by car is the most discouraged option for getting around Madrid. Traffic, traffic restrictions such as "Madrid Central" or environmental restrictions make the car an almost useless means of transportation in the city of Madrid.

If you are going to visit towns or villages around Madrid to discover other places, you can rent a car.

If you want to get around the city of Madrid in a shared electric car, you have many options like Zity, Wible, Free2Move, Share Now and GoTo. This is the best option for getting around Madrid by car. In addition, this option makes it easier to park while protecting the environment!

Traveling by train or "cercanías" in Madrid allows you to move around the city more quickly and, above all, this means of transportation will allow you to move around the cities located around Madrid.

Madrid's train schedules vary depending on the line, but normally the train operates between 5am and midnight from Monday to Friday. The frequency of the trains also varies according to the zone

Since 2007, the city of Madrid has a 35.4 kilometer streetcar network or Metro Ligero with 4 lines and 52 stations that connect Madrid with more residential areas and other transport networks.

The Metro Ligero service operates Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 1:30 am and fares vary depending on the zone and the price of a trip can vary between 1.5€ and 3€.

You can choose to buy the 10-trip pass which costs 12.2 € and the 10-trip pass which allows you to combine the metro ligero and the metro, which costs 18.3 €.

This service is included in monthly and annual subscriptions and the rate varies according to zone and age.

Most major European cities also offer the option of traveling by motorcycle and scooter and the city of Madrid is no exception. More and more, we see these means of transport from different companies in the cities.

For electric motorcycles you need to have a driver's license and to order a motorcycle you just need to download the application and follow the steps indicated on the application. Many companies offer this service in Madrid: eCooltra, Muving, Movo and Acciona.

Regarding scooters, a driver's license is not required and to pick one up, all you have to do is download the app. As with motorcycles, there are more and more companies that offer this service: Acciona, Voi, Scoot, Taxify, Koko, Mobike, Ari, Ufo, Flash, Rideconga, Tier, CityBee, Alma, Lime, Wind, Movo, Mygo, Jump Uber. If you want to try this experience, don't worry you will find them in almost every corner of Madrid!

Scooter rates also vary depending on the company and the distances traveled.

Cycling in Madrid is a great alternative to visit or get around the city. With more and more bicycle lanes, the Spanish capital is increasingly prepared for people who want to move in a healthy and ecological way, while exercising!

Several options are available and the main one is Bicimad, the company proposed by the Madrid City Council that has a total of 165 access points and allows you to pick up and drop off electric bikes very easily. As Madrid is not a flat city, it is the ideal option to get around quickly and without sweating too much (especially in summer!).

Concerning the rates, they vary according to the subscription. You can use this service without a subscription and the rates are 2 € for the first half hour and 4 € for the following ones. With an annual subscription that costs between 15 € and 25 €, the trips cost 0,5 € for the first half hour and 0,60 € for the following ones.

Apart from the option of Bicimad, just like for motorcycles and electric scooters, the city of Madrid offers an infinite number of electric and non-electric bike rental companies that you will surely find on every corner. To use them, just download the application.

Another alternative for getting from the airport to the University is by rental car. You will find a large number of car rental companies at the North and South Airport. To see the rates, just look on the companies' websites. Some of them offer very interesting deals like cicar.com for example, but we advise you to look on the car rental search engines to compare the different rates like carjet.com, liligo.fr or carigami.fr.
