Studying in Spain: financing your studies

FEEDUC

Why talk to you about financing your studies when we talk about Spain? What budget should you consider? How do you go about it?

It is essential for us to mention this important aspect when considering studying in Spain, especially when it comes to training in the health sector such as dentistry, physiotherapy or veterinary medicine.

Why are you talking about financing when you have a project to study in Spain?

I invite you to read the news article about "Public University - Private University". We share information about the characteristics of each of these two university education systems present in Spain.

You will see that on all the demanding courses(architecture, health sciences, business....), the opportunity to enter a public university is low.

You will certainly have to turn to a private university to access quality training in many areas, and in these, the students are the ones who finance their studies.

What budget should you consider for your studies in Spain?

The budget will vary greatly from university to university, from program to program, and from city to city.

Tuition fees vary, in the universities we have selected for the quality of their teaching in Spain: 6000 euros per year (in physiotherapy) for the least expensive, to more than 20000 euros per year (in medicine) for the most expensive.

Catholic universities have tax benefits in Spain, which allows them to offer lower tuition fees than those without this status. You will have to take religious courses and validate the corresponding subjects in order to obtain a diploma.

It is more expensive to live in the center of a large city than on the outskirts of a small town. However, budgets remain lower than in university towns in France. You can access more details from the page dedicated to housing in the section that helps you with your administrative procedures.

How to finance your project ?

  • There are a few devices you can't expect much from:
  1. The C.R.O.US. does not logically provide assistance because the university course is held in a private school abroad.
  2. The Regional Council, depending on the place of residence, may have programs to financially support study abroad, with or without a means test.
  3. The Conseil Général, depending on the place of residence, may have programs to financially support study abroad projects, with or without a means test.
  4. Some foundations can also grant scholarships: AFFDU, FIFDU, IFUW, Rotary International Foundation, Cetelem Foundation, Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet Foundation, Kenza Foundation...
  5. Very few universities offer income-based scholarships. The ceilings are very low (often much higher than the incomes of families whose children plan to study in Spain) and the amounts obtained are much lower than the tuition fees of these universities.
  6. There is a device within all universities that can be activated because of your excellent academic results: students can get excellence scholarships ... not all students, just the excellent ones.

In any case, the provisions of these first two points are very random and are not sufficient to ensure the payment of your education and your life in Spain.

  • The third and final point is the only one you can really count on:

Turn to your bank in France for a student loan.

Compete with at least two other banks. A student, a potential future client when he/she will be a liberal practitioner in the medical or paramedical sector for example, is very interesting for a bank in the medium and long term and the best way for them is to capture him/her during his/her studies.

However, you should also be aware that the amount of money you will be lent does not depend on your future job, nor on the money you need to finance your studies and live in Spain for several years, but only on the ability to repay of the person who is going to act as guarantor for you.

The FEEDUC of FEEDUC

Do not embark on a course of study without having secured the totality (schooling + life in Spain) of the financing of your studies.

In fact, if you were to stop during the course of your studies, you would not only lose money, but you would also lose time, since the part of the training that has already been financed would not be used to continue your studies, either in a Spanish public university or in France.

And if you have any questions, don't forget that we are present in France for information meetings. Sign up now!

We are delighted, once again, to bring you more than just a file to fill out.

It's our presence in the field that makes FEEDUC: we know what we're talking about, and we only talk about what we know.
