Studying at a public university in Spain

The main reason given by students who tell us they want to enter the public higher education system in Spain is financial. As in France, there are registration fees. In the public universities in Spain these range from 700€ per year for the least expensive to about 1.800€ for the most expensive. This varies mainly by region.

As a reminder, studies in universities and public schools of higher education are not "free" (neither in France nor in Spain) as we sometimes hear: they cost several thousands of euros per year (more than 12,000 euros per year/student on average) and per student to the States that finance them.

Another reason may be technical. Sometimes there is no private university offer in the field of activity or in the geographical area chosen by the student for his studies. Therefore, the student has no choice but to consider a public sector course if he or she wishes to study in Spain.

The first reason is that it is not easy to find information on admission requirements.

The second is that it is often even less easy to understand all the information once you have found it.

In addition, the information available is intended for and adapted to a Spanish audience. Of course, it is also written in Spanish and in a specific vocabulary that you may not be able to master even if you have a good general level of Spanish.

Orientation calendars are not at all the same in Spain and France: Parcoursup opens in January, while the websites for applications to Spanish universities will open in June. If you are in your final year of high school, you will probably have your baccalaureate results too late to provide them within the deadlines set by the public universities.

Once you are a student at a public university in Spain, you will not be able to use your foreign nationality to ask for adaptations (internship agreements, study of documents written in French, adapted class schedules and arrangements, etc.). Studying in a public university in Spain will be done under the same conditions as for Spanish students.

If you are attending a university in a region where the official language is not Spanish (Catalonia, the Netherlands, Galicia, the Valencian Community), your classes will not (always? often?) be in Spanish.

First, admission to public universities in Spain is selective. The best applications among those submitted, in accordance with the instructions given by the selected university and within the deadline, are likely to be able to proceed to enrollment.

There is no national procedure and the prerequisites and admission procedures vary from one autonomous region to another, if not from one university to another within the same region.

The information is often given in Spanish but sometimes it is given in one of the co-official languages of Spain: Basque, Catalan, Galician.

The more good Spanish students apply to enter a program that is in high demand by the very good Spanish high school students (medicine, veterinary, physical therapy, dentistry, nursing, etc.), the more difficult it is for a student who completed high school in France to be among the students whose applications are selected. Grading out of 20 is less favorable to students than grading out of 10 as it is in Spain. The Spanish grading system values positive responses, whereas it is often negative responses that create the grade for French students. In high school in France, teachers tend to grade their students severely in^1ère and terminale to get them to work harder, whereas this practice is not used in Spain.

This is the grade of the last student admitted to a given university in a given session. To find out if a French student has a chance of being admitted, he or she will consult the "nota de corte" of the previous years for the course of study for which he or she wishes to apply to the university or universities in which he or she is interested.

He or she will then make an intelligent calculation (by comparing his or her average grade out of 20 obtained in the baccalaureate to a grade out of 10, which he or she can increase by taking additional exams and/or by taking advantage of grades obtained in certain subjects in the baccalaureate) to find out if he or she has a "chance" of being admitted.

Once students have subscribed to this specific service, FEEDUC will inform and advise them on their eligibility for admission to a public university in the Madrid district as a post-baccalaureate student.

Once these specific services have been subscribed to, FEEDUC will carry out one or more online admission processes to a public university in the Madrid district at post-baccalaureate level.

Once students have subscribed to this specific service, FEEDUC will advise them and carry out the online process of requesting validation of their baccalaureate obtained in the French education system on the UNED website.

The services offered by FEEDUC as part of the integration of a public university in the Madrid district, meet the following needs:

• ORIENTATION - FEASIBILITY STUDY
  • Information on application processes and timelines for public universities in the Madrid district of Spain.
  • Information on the admission grades of the previous year to enter the public university of the district of Madrid in Spain chosen by the student for the studies he/she wishes to carry out.
  • Information on the legal procedures and timetables, "PCE" and "reconocimiento", that THE STUDENT can use to increase his/her chances of being admitted to the public university of the district of Madrid in Spain chosen by THE STUDENT for the studies he/she wishes to carry out.
  • Elaboration of a list of public universities in the district of Madrid in Spain that could have mathematically allowed the admission of THE STUDENT in year N-1, specifying the conditions under which THE STUDENT could have been admitted.

• ASSISTANCE AND IMPLEMENTATION OF APPLICATION PROCESSES
  • Issuance of the list of documents that will be necessary for the implementation of an application process in the public university of the district of Madrid in Spain chosen by THE STUDENT for the studies he/she wishes to carry out.
  • Implementation of the online administrative process* of the application for admission to a public university in the district of Madrid in Spain in accordance with the procedure and admission calendar of the university chosen by THE STUDENT.

• ASSISTANCE AND IMPLEMENTATION OF BACCALAUREATE VALIDATION PROCESSES AND ADMISSION OPTIMIZATION
  • CREDENCIAL: Implementation of online administrative procedures for the request for validation of the student's baccalaureate obtained in the French educational system as required to enter a public university in the district of Madrid in Spain, called "credencial" *.

*Thedirect costs are taken care of and paid directly by THE STUDENT to the public university of the district of Madrid in Spain in accordance with the procedure and schedule of admission of the university chosen by THE STUDENT and UNED in accordance with the procedure and schedule established by this organization.

• ORIENTATION, FEASIBILITY STUDY: 1000 euros
• ASSISTANCE AND IMPLEMENTATION OF APPLICATION PROCESS: 1000 euros
• CREDENCIAL: 1000 euros

Subscription to one or more of these services can only take place following registration with FEEDUC and the subsequent individual interview with each registered student. The order form, dated, stamped and signed by FEEDUC, will only be sent to the student at his/her express request.

FEEDUC reserves the right to refuse support if it is too late to implement all or part of the requested service in reasonable conditions.

FEEDUC undertakes to do its utmost to provide a quality service to the student, based on the information provided by the student, by the selected public universities in the Madrid district and by UNED (validation and optimization of baccalaureate results).

The Student undertakes to provide all the information necessary for the implementation of the contracted services within the deadlines requested by FEEDUC as indicated by the universities or UNED (validation and optimization of baccalaureate results).

• FEEDUC is not responsible for any constraints, changes, prerequisites or implementation schedules set by the public universities of the Madrid district, UNED or the Spanish, French and European authorities, and therefore cannot be held liable for the direct or indirect consequences of these or any changes that may affect them.
• These conditions are valid for the school year beginning in the calendar year in which the service is purchased.
