Over the years, Spain has become the preferred destination for French students to study in the health field.

Access to health studies is facilitated by the co-existence of a system of private universities and a system of public universities.

However, Spain's attractiveness in terms of health training is not limited to the easier access to certain courses in private universities.

Studying in the health field in Spain means choosing excellent quality training. The professors are excellent and the facilities are up to expectations (and, of course, the prices).

However, are all health-related courses recommended for studying in Spain?

FEEDUC takes a look at the recommended and inadvisable training courses in the Spanish health sector.

KINESITHERAPY

This is the most popular course of study in the health field in Spain for French students. Several hundred students leave each year to study in private universities, mainly in Madrid and Valencia, but also in the Canary Islands or in other regions of Spain.

KINESITHERAPY :

Is it recommended to study physical therapy in Spain?

FEEDUC's answer is a clear YES. You'll find excellent, well-trained teachers. In Spain, there are also masters in physiotherapy and also doctorates. This structure of physiotherapy studies in Spain will promote research and therefore also the quality of training in Spain to become a physiotherapist. More and more private universities are calling on doctors in kinesitherapy to teach their students. As a result, the standard of their graduates is all the higher. In some cases, it even leads to vocations in research and teaching.

What are the strong points of Spanish private universities to study physical therapy? In addition to the professors with doctorates already mentioned, Spanish private universities have some assets to put forward in their teaching of physical therapy:

The campuses of the universities selected by FEEDUC are equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, but also feature older equipment that future graduates may still find in their future workplaces. Some universities have simulated hospitals where physiotherapists will work hand in hand with other health professionals such as future doctors https://www.feeduc.eu/formation/etude-medecine-espagne/, nurses https://www.feeduc.eu/formation/ecole-infirmier-espagne/ and pharmacists https://www.feeduc.eu/formation/etudes-pharmacie-espagne/ In addition to the physiotherapy tables available to all students, the specific equipment for physiotherapy treatment or even sometimes the rehabilitation swimming pools, Spanish private universities have excellent sports infrastructures which are also often an important factor of choice for physiotherapy students interested in this speciality.

The profession of physiotherapist is based largely on clinical practice and care. Spain's private universities have drawn up study plans validated by the Spanish regulatory authorities, in which practice is central to the training. From the very first year, students are considered as future professionals and are expected to act as such. As a result, courses dedicated to hands-on practice take place as early as the first year, and hours of practice increase as the years go by. Internships take place either in the second or third year. Students can thus achieve up to 2,000 hours of practice (between classroom practice and internships in clinics and hospitals) over the 4 years of study. This is not insignificant when you consider that, when returning to France https://www.feeduc.eu/informations-sur-les-metiers-reglementes/, the number and diversity of internship hours are closely scrutinized by practice authorization commissions. Extra-curricular internships can also be arranged during the summer.

This is obviously a decisive factor in a student's choice of physiotherapy training abroad. FEEDUC only selects official Spanish universities that issue physiotherapy diplomas that allow students to practice in France. Beware, however, of certain organizations located in Spain which are not officially recognized by ANECA (La Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación) and therefore cannot issue a Spanish diploma recognized in France. Courses offered by these organizations are often offered in French, and it is possible that some of them do not issue an official Spanish diploma.

Although there are disparities between universities, the feedback from professionals in France about physical therapy graduates in Spain is generally very positive. All agree that Spanish universities do a good job and generally train physiotherapists well. It is this quality of training that allows Spain to be a reference in Europe today in the field of physiotherapy training.

Spain is a very different country culturally from France and this is also felt in the field of education. French students choose Spain for all of the above reasons, but they will undoubtedly leave with one image in mind: their professors hugging and kissing them the day they graduate. Spain is a very friendly country where students and professors are always on first-name terms, but this is not a sign of disrespect. It is simply a much closer and more human way of teaching. This will be felt by the future professional trained in Spain, especially in his relationship with patients. The human warmth of a physiotherapist with his patients is an important skill during sometimes painful treatments. And Spain is probably the best country to learn how to transmit this warmth and benevolence to his patients. It's not in a study plan. It's in the culture and DNA of Spain.

Studying physical therapy in Spain is a guarantee of quality teaching, facilities dedicated to this profession but also general facilities of high quality universities, a training recognized in France and a quality of life unequalled in Europe.

FEEDUC can only encourage you to get started if you're thinking of studying physiotherapy in Spain.

DENTAL:

dental in Spain
After physical therapy, dental studies are the most popular among French students who want to study in Spain.

The studies last 5 years and you will obtain the grado en odontologia.

Is it recommended to study dental studies in Spain ?

FEEDUC's answer is also a clear yes.

The training is of excellent quality and it is the assurance to become a very good professional.

What are the strengths of Spanish private universities to study dentistry?Spanish private universities and Spain in general have many assets to offer that make Spain an attractive choice to study dentistry.

As with physical therapy, more and more professors who teach at private universities have doctorates and therefore have an extremely interesting specialization for students. In addition to this part of the training, most professors are also working professionals. They divide their time between their clinical practice and teaching at the university. They are up to date on techniques and also share with their students the daily life of a practitioner and can comment on many clinical cases in class. Choosing Spain to study dentistry means choosing to be accompanied by professionals who also consider you as professionals.

Private universities have specialized dental clinics, some of which are truly impressive. The equipment used is of the latest generation. Moreover, from the first year, students practice on mannequins and then on simulators. This allows them to gain confidence when they touch their first patients in theirfourth year. And there, it is a chair for two students. They work in pairs under the watchful eye of their professors. Private university dental clinics in Spain are much cheaper for patients than any other clinic and are therefore usually full, which guarantees access to patients and the different clinical cases that need to be treated.

As mentioned for the previous training, the modern and spacious facilities offer practice opportunities that are unmatched by this training in other European countries. A student trained in Spain will come out with much more experience than many professionals trained in France. Although it may vary depending on the university, a dentist trained in Spain will have seen dozens of patients and will have taken on more and more responsibility for their care during their studies.

Classes of about 40 students with privileged access to professors are the ideal conditions for learning and preparing to become an excellent professional. With professors who are accessible and close to them, students will often feel like part of a real family during their dental studies in Spain: the family of dentists.

Like physical therapy, the profession of dentist is regulated in Europe and in France. The diploma obtained in Spain is valid in France and allows the exercise of the profession of dentistry following some administrative steps to be carried out with the Order of Dentists in France.

All the French professionals we consulted agree on this point. French graduates trained in Spain are of a good level. They see some differences with professionals trained in France but these are not, according to them, fundamental. However, their opinion is often not as positive when they give us feedback on the professional quality of French graduates trained in other European countries.

In a nutshell, studying dentistry in Spain is an option recommended by FEEDUC. Our 10 years of experience have shown us that the professionals trained in Spain are excellent, and that the investment represented by such a project is quickly recouped on return to France. back in France

VETERINARY

The access to studies to become a veterinarian in France is extremely difficult. It is a little less difficult in Spain, but it remains, along with medicine and certain engineering courses, one of the most difficult courses to access.

Is it recommended to study to study veterinary medicine in Spain ?

FEEDUC certainly recommends studying veterinary medicine in Spain.

The quality of training is again at the heart of FEEDUC's recommendation. Universities in Spain are capable of training very good, competent professionals who can then easily enter the job market in France.

veterinarian

What are the strengths of Spanish private universities for studying veterinary medicine?

Once again, this is the key argument for recommending veterinary studies at the universities selected in Spain by FEEDUC. These Spanish universities are demanding and prepare their students to the very best of their abilities. The course lasts 5 years, and veterinary students are the least likely to enjoy the pleasures of Spanish life. All agree that they are the hardest-working and most demanding students.

A central criterion of many private Spanish universities, the facilities dedicated to veterinary training are among the best in Europe. You will find state-of-the-art equipment that you will rarely find in conventional clinics. Some of these university clinics are even references and pet owners, especially horse owners, travel long distances to have their animals treated there.

Once again, this is one of the strengths of some of Spain's private universities. The universities selected by FEEDUC have a real or virtual university veterinary clinic, and have the capacity to accommodate large animals such as horses or cows, or to simulate care on all types of animal. This enables students at these universities to practice their future profession. They will be able to assist in operations, set up treatments, monitor sick animals, etc. In addition, they have practical internships on farms, but also with animal reception centers, zoos or parks dedicated to animals, associations for the protection of endangered animals, etc. In short, veterinary students will be able to practice their profession during their studies. Those studyingat UEM https://www.feeduc.eu/universite/universite-europea-de-madrid-uem/ even have access to Europe's first simulated veterinary hospital, enabling them to study practical cases right from the first year, and to see rare diseases that are difficult to see in real-life cases during their training.

The veterinary diploma obtained at Spanish universities is official and allows veterinary practice in France https://www.feeduc.eu/informations-sur-les-metiers-reglementes/ and throughout the European Union. This is a major advantage for French students wishing to become veterinary surgeons. They can train in Spain at an official university and then work in France.

Studying veterinary medicine in Spain https://www.feeduc.eu/formation/etude-veterinaire-espagne/ is therefore a pathway to this profession that should be taken very seriously, as you'll find great professionals, excellent facilities and top-quality training.

Getting into this program is difficult, but with a good level of Spanish https://www.feeduc.eu/apprendre-espagnol/, anything is possible.

PHARMACY

Studying pharmacy in Spain is a quality solution.
Even though it is a less popular course than the previous ones, more and more French students are choosing to study pharmacy in Spain.

Is it recommended to study pharmacy in Spain?

FEEDUC fully recommends studying pharmacy in Spain.

What are the strengths of Spanish private universities for studying pharmacy?

Among the health-related degrees offered in Spain, pharmacy is one of the easiest to get into private universities. Why is this? Simply because there are fewer applications from international students. However, most private universities are very strict about their admission criteria, including level of Spanish

The diploma of pharmacist (Grado en farmacia) obtained in Spain is automatically valid to practice in a pharmacy or in the industry in Spain and also in France. For other specialties, pharmacy graduates in Spain can also register for the internship competition in France and thus join the French system to specialize. They can also take a competitive examination (the FIR) in Spain at the end of the 5 years of study, once the specialization diploma is obtained in Spain, it is then possible to practice the specialty in France.

Many private universities offer you the opportunity to practice your future profession in their simulated hospitals. You will manage real pharmacies with real medicines in these state-of-the-art facilities. And of course, you will have ultra-modern equipment at your disposal to learn your profession in the best conditions.
- Practice: This is similar to the previous point. Private universities in Spain emphasize practice and a teaching method based on "learning by doing". Their links with the business world will also allow you to do internships in the best laboratories.

Pharmacy studies in Spain are therefore among the health-related courses selected by FEEDUC.

BIOMEDICINE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

Biomedicine and Biotechnology are health-related courses that are offered in some private and public universities in Spain.

These are alternatives to medical studies in Spain which are very interesting.

Why study biomedicine or biotechnology in Spain?

These courses are part of the health curriculum and can be used as bridges to the curriculum for study medicine in Spain

This is often one of the main reasons for choosing these courses(https://www.feeduc.eu/formations/ ). However, only the 2 or 3 best students from these courses will have the opportunity to go on to medicine.

Biomedicine encompasses knowledge related to medicine with knowledge related to biology. The goal is to develop new, less toxic treatments and to improve the detection of diseases and their treatment.

Biotechnology is the technological application of living systems to modify products or processes.

Both of these courses are great alternatives for students who want to study in the health field. They are research-oriented courses.

Studying these courses in Spain will allow you to benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities of the private university campuses as well as the best professionals in the sector who will teach you.

AUDIOPROTHESE

Finally, FEEDUC recommends studying audioprosthesis in Spain.
But beware: this is a two-year professional training course, which will often require an additional year in France to complete complementary internships and take care of all the administrative formalities.

What are the strengths of Spanish private universities for studying hearing aid?

  • Easy access: this is obviously an important criterion for many students who wish to access this training. In France, the demand is much higher than the supply of training. Candidates to study hearing aid are more easily accepted in the Spanish educational system.
  • Semi-personal training: Many hearing aid schools in Spain offer a semi-personal teaching format. This opens the doors to this training to many optical professionals who wish to acquire new skills in the field of audiology. Please note, however, that it is mandatory to speak Spanish in order to study hearing aid training in Spain, whether it is in a semi-formal or face-to-face format.
  • Fees: in private universities, training courses are certainly not free, but they are generally much more affordable than other training courses in the health field. The investment is also lower in the case of semi-presidential training because there is no accommodation to pay for on site.
  • The quality of training: Spain offers high quality training in the field of audioprosthesis, which then allows you to work in France as a trained audioprosthesist.
  • Validity of the diploma: the Spanish "Ciclo Formativo en Grado Superior en audiología protésica" diploma allows you to work in France. It is necessary to go through an access commission which will often give compensatory training courses to be carried out in France. The procedures are sometimes slow and tedious, but the diploma is valid and allows you to practice your profession in France. You will be able to open your own store dedicated to audioprosthesis if you wish.

There are still other courses that can be done in Spain such as nursing, but university fees are often too high to really interest French students and public universities are difficult to access(Nota de corte: 10.726/14 in 2021 for the lowest score in Spain)

But there are also a number of health and paramedical courses in Spain that FEEDUC doesn't really recommend, or simply doesn't advise.

MEDICINE

Medical training in Spain is of excellent quality. However, FEEDUC must warn you about several points.

Medical studies are extremely difficult for a French student to access. To have a chance of being admitted to medical school in Spain, you must have an excellent level of Spanish as well as an excellent academic record.

In public public universities in Spain for example, a certified B2 level of Spanish and grades close to 20/20 in the baccalaureate are required since the " notas de corte "are close to 14/14.

And in private universities, in addition to the price of more than 20.000€/year for a minimum of 6 years, the access grades are also very high.

Finally, one reason why we do not recommend Spain as a destination to study medicine is the organization of the studies themselves. At the end of the 6-year study cycle, you have to pass an exam called the MIR (Médico Interno Residente). It is the result of this exam that determines the access to the specialties...or the obligation to retake it the following year if the grade is not high enough to obtain a specialty that interests the candidate.

WOMAN WISE

Midwifery training in Spain is not recommended by FEEDUC.

A midwife is a student who has studied nursing in Spain https://www.feeduc.eu/formation/ecole-infirmier-espagne/ and then specializes in this field. So, in terms of content, we're talking about a different kind of training to that offered in France after a PASS (formerly PACES).

The diploma is certainly valid in the European Union and therefore in France, but it will be difficult for you to integrate into a job with a Spanish diploma because the skills are not the same as those of a midwife trained in France.

Finally, it is important to know that in order to obtain a midwifery degree in Spain, you must first complete the nursing course and then take the EIR (Enfermero Interno Residente) exam to obtain a potential place in a "madrona" to specialize.

When you choose Spain for your midwifery education, you will start with nursing studies, so you don't know if you will end up being a midwife or just a nurse.

This is why FEEDUC does not accept projects from students wishing to become midwives in Spain.

ORTHOPHONIST

FEEDUC does not recommend studying speech therapy in Spain.

Learning this language-related profession in a language other than French could be detrimental to your work in France.

The diploma is recognized in France and in the European Union but the skills acquired in a speech therapy course in Spain are not applicable with a French public for a large part of them and you will probably have important flaws in the results obtained with your French clients if you studied speech therapy in Spain.

Studying logopedia in Spain is therefore not recommended, and FEEDUC does not accept applications from students wishing to study speech therapy in Spain.

FEEDUC's advice + for your studies in Spain

FEEDUC always strives to offer you quality training courses, and even more so in the healthcare field. Our first piece of advice is to be careful about the schools you apply to, whether in Spain or elsewhere. Always check that it's an official university that issues official diplomas, and not a private organization with no official recognition of the diploma.

For many of you, studying health care is a calling. And that's why you're willing to make the sacrifices necessary to get there. But be careful not to commit to unreliable and underperforming choices.

At FEEDUC, we'll always advise you to be well prepared to succeed in your studies. Let's not forget: the aim is to complete your studies and become competent professionals, not just to gain admission to Spain.

And if the skills acquired in Spain are perfectly valid for the professions recommended in this article, for other training courses, this is not necessarily the case if you then wish to be able to practice in France.

So take the time and think about your project.

Spain can be an excellent solution but not all projects can be solved in this country.
