What studies in Spain?

FEEDUC's opinion

We have been working for more than 10 years in the education sector (French and Spanish) in Spain. This has allowed us to identify the university courses of interest in Spain for a French student.

Contrary to what one might imagine from France, Spain is not only interested in training in the health field.

Our general opinion is to advise you to determine, precisely, in 1 first time, your objectives:

  • Obtaining a diploma in a regulated sector to practice in France.
  • The search for skills to practice in France after your studies in Spain.
  • The search for an international career.
  • Access to high quality training.
  • The desire to distinguish one's future CV from those of most French students.
  • The idea of proving an ability to adapt, to demonstrate an ability to get out of one's comfort zone.
  • Etc...

Our specific opinion on the most popular and interesting courses in Spain:

If you are passionate about Spain, if you have a particular passion for a region of Spain, if you want to defend innovative tourism proposals or benefit from the marketing experience of experts, you can find a quality training offer. In the more specific sector of the hotel industry, there is no interest in training, stay rather in France or think about Switzerland but Spain does not offer courses that really deserve your interest.

If the objective of your your architectural education is to have an international career, you should be interested in the proposals of Spanish universities. In Spain, this training is based on engineering training (in France, architectural studies are more likely to be part of fine arts training) and therefore offers a very solid technical foundation. Several universities offer the curriculum in English with bridges to the major architectural firms, particularly in the United States. Studying architecture in Spanish will allow for very interesting openings towards South America, with, in particular, interesting projects in sustainable development. In both cases, you will benefit from a learning method based on the implementation of projects, supervised by professors who are all recognized professionals and often awarded internationally for some of their projects.

You often choose these studies out of passion. You sometimes forget that, in order to have a quality training in this sector, you need enormous technical means at your disposal. You also need to know that you will need to have very specific specialties and a very important network to make a living and have fun in your future job. We have identified the right university for you in Spain and you can study there in Spanish or English with in both cases huge technical means (the Illion animation studio on campus), an infinite professional network (creation of the school by renowned and world-renowned entrepreneurs in the sector who could not find sufficiently well-trained personnel for their companies), worldwide recognition (students win most of the prizes awarded in competitions in this sector). In our opinion, only this university is interesting in this field of training and it is very interesting for a student to consider studying there in Spain.

Are you considering an international career?

Start before others by joining a university in Spain as soon as you graduate. Studies are much less expensive than in Anglo-Saxon countries and the quality and ranking of some schools are excellent, even before entering a Master's degree. This choice is an anticipated and thoughtful way to prove that your future CV is not like that of others and that you have long been able to step out of your comfort zone to achieve a goal. It is a way to already stand out to future employers that you don't even know yet when you haven't started your higher education. You can find, for example, excellent offers in English and Spanish. You can also find training offers in digital marketing, which will give you very concrete skills and allow you to be professionally competent even before you finish your studies. Another important advantage, in our opinion, is that in 2 years some of you will have finished your pre-prep and will enter a business school in France, on the basis of a competitive examination, and those who have chosen Spain will enter in the3rd year of equally prestigious schools at the international level. Last but not least, your profile as a foreign student is an undeniable advantage when it comes to the admission process to business schools in Spain: yes, you are automatically considered more motivated than the others!

In our opinion, you may be interested in training in Spain for very specific courses. For example, there are flamenco schools in Seville. We know students from the south of France who trained there for several years - they couldn't have found a better place ! FEEDUC works with a Madrid university that offers a prestigious music school. Every year, teachers and students win prizes in major international competitions around the world. If you're planning tomake music your career, this could be an interesting option, as it's of the highest quality.

To get aninteresting training in the design sector you have to be in the heart of the places where everything happens and be in contact withinfluential professionalsof the sector. This training proposal is located in the center of Madrid, a stone' s throw from Gran Via. It will provide you with skills and a network in the design sector based on the Italian expertise of the Group of which it is part. This is a great way to stand out from other profiles in the sector right from the start of your higher education!

The areas of engineering training are the same in Spain as in France: aeronautics, automotive, communication, computer science, aerospace, electrical, industrial, environmental sciences, etc... There are no generalist schools. The main advantage, in our opinion, is the opportunity to access these courses without going through the 2 years of preparatory school and your future ability to manage projects in Spain and Latin America for French companies, which is not so frequent. In this sector too, your profile as a foreign student is an important advantage for the admission process: for universities, if you choose Spain for your engineering studies, you are necessarily more motivated than a Spaniard studying in Spain or a French student studying in France!

Students who choose these studies: audioprosthesis, dentistry, physiotherapy, veterinary, podiatry, nursing;are often looking for a degree to practice in France. If you choose a serious university in Spain, you will obtain, in addition to this official diploma that will allow you to practice in France, solid knowledge and skills that will allow you to be competent and recognized professionals in France and everywhere else in the world.

In the health training or similar to this sector of training there are also trainings which, in our opinion, are not recommended:

  • Medicine : this course of study is very difficult to access for a French person in Spain and there is a barrier at the end of the studies, the MIR. This exam, which takes place at the end of the 6th year, is a grading exam but does not lead to a degree. There is therefore a real risk of successfully completing 6 years of studies but never becoming a doctor, neither specialist nor generalist, because of not passing the exam.
  • Midwifery: on the one hand, this training in Spain is only a nursing specialty and the skills obtained may be a little inadequate for competent practice in France, where the training is based on medicine and not nursing. Moreover, there are very few places in this specialty in Spain, so there is no guarantee that a nursing graduate will be admitted to this specialty.
  • Speech therapist: the linguistic structures of French and Spanish are very different and it is rare to have professionals trained in one of the two countries who have the skills to practice in the other and vice versa. As a proof, the need for speech therapists trained in France to treat students in French high schools in Spain in order to perform an efficient work.
  • Law : except as a complement to a business trainingWe do not recommend this course of study in Spain, neither for post-baccalaureate nor for a Master's degree. In post-bac you start with the basics of civil law which varies from one country to another and the contents are therefore not identical. To enter a Master's degree, you have to retake all the subjects, or almost all the subjects, obtained in a Bachelor's degree in France because the knowledge is not the same and the ECTS validations are therefore not accepted. Therefore, unless your life project is in Spain or you want to obtain a double degree in business and law so that your legal knowledge will help your business career, we do not recommend expatriation to Spain.
  • Teaching: you cannot be prepared to take the competitive examination to be a teacher in France by studying in another country and this is also true for Spain.A competitive examination for school teachers, a Capes, an Agrégation are prepared in France.
  • The STAPS equivalent: same as for teaching, a competitive examination for a sports educator or gym teacher to practice in France is taken and therefore prepared in France. If you have studied STAPS in France, you can, on the other hand, consider continuing your studies in Physiotherapy in Spain, sometimes with recognition of ECTS for certain subjects.
  • Social work: this is a Franco-French sector of activity, and therefore of training. It does not exist in Spain as a field of training. What is called "social" in Spain includes all the social sciences such aseconomics, law, business administration, international relations, history, geography, sociology...and is generally of no interest to a French student.
